I've recently dabbled in photography. Being a writer and poet there are times when I still feel that my words aren't enough to capture a moment. This is one of my first pieces, entitled 'Inspiration.'
Every day there are more people from around the world dropping their $0.02 on the handling of Hurricane Katrina, pre and post-storm as well as the effectiveness of FEMA in adminstering aid to the evacuees. Some of these discussions are educated and some are very antagonistic. However I stumbled across a very informative and creative blog by Jacob Applebaum that shows the real stories & photos you haven't seen on CNN, MSNBC, or the 'F' station. Check him out.
Somehow amongst the muck of garbage and posers a beacon of Hiphop light is shining through. They say they're not saviors of the culture just determined to show that "we are not all killers...we are not all pimps," Phonte - XXL Magazine October 2005. From The Listening to The Chitlin Circuit 1.5 and the arguably future classic The Minstrel Show, is the mainstream ready for Little Brother? MCs Phonte, Big Pooh, & DJ/producer 9th Wonder are North Carolina’s own LB. Only time will tell but for me this CD was a breath of fresh air. It reminded me of the first time I really listened to Illmatic or Enter the 36 Chambers. It's nice to see a return to the essence of Hiphop 2 MCs, 2 turntables, 1 DJ carrying on the tradition laid by Run-DMC, EPMD and others. Will the casual Hiphop fan get LB, probably not but purists, lyricists and fans with broad musical minds will get it. It will be interesting to see if Little Brother gets a strong push from their label but if not LB will still be around.
