Somehow amongst the muck of garbage and posers a beacon of Hiphop light is shining through. They say they're not saviors of the culture just determined to show that "we are not all killers...we are not all pimps," Phonte - XXL Magazine October 2005. From The Listening to The Chitlin Circuit 1.5 and the arguably future classic The Minstrel Show, is the mainstream ready for Little Brother? MCs Phonte, Big Pooh, & DJ/producer 9th Wonder are North Carolina’s own LB. Only time will tell but for me this CD was a breath of fresh air. It reminded me of the first time I really listened to Illmatic or Enter the 36 Chambers. It's nice to see a return to the essence of Hiphop 2 MCs, 2 turntables, 1 DJ carrying on the tradition laid by Run-DMC, EPMD and others. Will the casual Hiphop fan get LB, probably not but purists, lyricists and fans with broad musical minds will get it. It will be interesting to see if Little Brother gets a strong push from their label but if not LB will still be around.

It's sad but some of these so-called saviors of hiphop, are having the exact opposite effect on the hiphop community. I know a lot of people who are building their collections up with the old classics of hiphop instead of buying into the new artists. The industry needs to step back and listen to what is being put out there these days, it's so far off from where hiphop began.
